A new approach?

A new approach?

Well, I guess this isn't really going to be a new approach exactly, but it's going to be new for me. I've decide to replace the water in my double bubblers with gasoline. I know this is inherently dangerous. If a flashback gets past my arrestor, there will be fire under the hood. If it results in major gains, though, I am going to rebuild with all stainless steel bubblers and vapor delivery tubes and with flashback prevention and containment at the top of the design concerns.

Explain?

Nick... this intrigues me, what kind of gains will you get by using gasoline here?

Where did you hear about this or did you come up with this yourself?

The Idea...

I seem to have gotten some slight gains from mixing a little bit of alcohol into my bubblers as an anti-freeze agent over the winter. I havent really gathered any specific data to confirm this though. So, I got to thinking; if a little bit of alcohol vapor helps, then a lot of gasoline vapor might help even more.

I searched for free gasoline vapoization plans, but couldn't find any except for a video where a guy claimed to be able to idle an engine just from the gasoline vapors resulting from the the engine vacuum pulling air through a bubbler filled with gasoline. It didn't work in the video, but, after my experience with the alcohol, it made some sense that it could help.

I thought it warranted some further investigation. Thursday, when I make my monthly run to OKC, first, I'll go get a new fire extinguisher Shocked Eye-wink then I'll give it a whirl where the grass roots meet the cutting edge. There's a new catch phrase/motto/tag line for ya...LOL

A Safer idea

A much safer idea would be to use turpentine as the hydrocarbon modifier, as per Henry Paine's 1884 patent #308276.

It was his choice to modify the electrolytic gas with turps to render it safer to store and use as an illuminating gas back in the day.

I suspect a bubbler filled with gasoline is going to make for an interesting mobile fireworks display at the first flashback, and one I wouldnt want to steering down public roads. Smiling

Alcohol

Well, being the daredevil I am...NOT, I've opted to replace the water in my bubblers with pure alcohol instead of gasoline...for now. My bubblers are pretty small compared to most, so there isn't enough volume to wreak too much havoc on the unsuspecting public that will be joining me on the highway tomorrow.

and here I thought the days

and here I thought the days of running "hooch" across state lines had passed. Smiling

LOL! Well, apparently God didn't like the idea. When I got ready to leave this morning, all 3 batteries in the car were dead for no reason, so I had to take my truck.

When I got back, I checked everything and nothing was out of the ordinary. I thoroughly traced every inch of every wire and inspected every switch and every connection. The main battery for the car and the other two in the trunk weren't even connected, but they were all dead. I recharged them and hooked everything back up and everything worked fine and electrical test readings were normal just as they have been for many months. I even tested the alternator and starter. Nothing whatsoever was wrong with anything. Very strange.

What's next?

When it rains, it pours.

Today I succeeded in catching my garage on fire.

I left a parabolic mirror, I just finished building, laying on the garage floor. As the sun went down, it just happened to reflect off of the parabolic mirror to a focal point where a box full of plastic parts and other junk just happened to be sitting. The parabolic mirror is working just as planned. It caught the box on fire! If the neighbor across the street hadn't been outside and seen the smoke and hadn't come running to warn me when he did, I have no doubt that my entire house would be a smoldering heap of rubble right now.

Gas in bubbler or Alcohol or whatever

I apologize for coming into your thread so late, but thought I'd toss this out to you. Firstly, liquid gasoline will NOT explode, so there is less problem than you'd normally expect. I know of several installers who swear by gasoline bubblers. Alcohol burns real slow, so I would not see it as a gain enhancer. BUT I also know that there are things we can do that help. We cannot explain why; they just work. So I am one who is open to any and all ideas.
The vaporization of gasoline is further accomplished by heating the fuel. I use a simple device that straps in to a radiator or heater hose. Made of coiled copper line inside a aluminum container, it allows the fuel to spend some time getting heated on its' way to the EFI's. This heating actually "cracks" the gasoline molecule, making it available to accept the radical Hydrogen molecules that we want to introduce. I would build a simple "dryer" and put several boxes of 99.5% Moth Balls inside. Let your HHO gas, after it has gone through your (first) bubbler, flow from the bottom of the container thus being "filtered" by the moth balls on the way up & out to the intake. This is Naphthalene, and it bonds to the cracked gas like it was meant to be this way, further improving that "complete combustion" that makes us a success in the mileage gains department. It is also an effective "filter" absorbing any traces of caustic that has made it past the bubbler.
Another enhancement is to add Ozone generators inside the air filter box. This too will help those cracked gas molecules to completely combust. Both of the above "techniques" only add a 3-6% increase, but together, along with the HHO, heated gas and whatever else you've come up with, will add about another 3-5 MPG!
Put your HHO input to the engine on the "dirty side" of the air filter. No flash back arrester needed. I have several dozen installs all done this way, without a single incident or even a scare.
