Something kind of cool & different

Since it's so dead around here, this is a live feed just a few miles from my house. Eagles were unheard of around here until just a few short years ago. Here's a link to view the live web cams:

eagles?

Hey, thats pretty cool Nick. Makes me wonder whos the guy they got to climb up their and put that camera up.. "oh dont worry, I think the eagles gone, you'll be fine". HA.

HAHAHAHA

I think it must have been Chris Farley. That will only make sense if you've seen the movie Almost Heros.

cool

Thats cool Nick. What state is this in?

Oklahoma

This is at Sooner Lake (about 20 minutes North of me).

Eggs ought to be hatching

The first baby eagle should start hatching from it's egg any time now. I hoped it would be today so I could give it a catchy St. Patricks Day nickname, but, oh well. All three should hatch within the next few days. I hope they didn't get too cold or something bad. I keep checking on them every couple of hours or so. It seems a little silly, but I'm kind of excited about the whole thing...hehe

The Eaglet Has Landed

One hatched...two to go.

Eagle update

March 30: A very interesting sequence of events takes place about 10:35 CDT. The male brings in an American Coot and begins eating it. A large stick is in his way, and he spends a moment rearranging it several times. The female rises and the male begins feeding the chick, who clambers over to get closer to the coot. The female begins burying the unhatched eggs in the nest lining. Shortly thereafter, the female leaves and the male unburies the eggs and settles on them, by all appearances ineptly excluding the chick for a few minutes before allowing it to climb under for brooding.
He seemed focused on the eggs, although they will almost certainly not hatch at this point.

April 1: Camera viewers this morning noticed an unhatched egg stuck to the female as she stood up and flew off. The egg dropped off in flight. It had probably cracked and adhered to her feathers.

April 2: These birds are some very good parents. The nest is full of food. Earlier today, I counted 2 big fish, 4 American Coots and a rabbit.

like a fish tank?

This is kinda like a fish tank I used to have. I would just site there and watch it... and before I new it, a half hour would go by.... I spent too much time watching things swim.

Time flys by
